Intuition

"The only real valuable thing is intuition."
~ Albert Einstein

"Often you just have to rely on your intuition."
~ Bill Gates

"It is through science that we prove, but through intuition that we discover."
~ Jules Henri Poincare

"Knowledge has three degrees—opinion, science, illumination. The means or instrument of the first is sense; of the second, dialectic; of the third, intuition."

Some History on Thanksgiving

The first Thanksgiving was in 1621 after the Pilgrims first harvest.

In 1863, after a series of editorials and an appeal by writer Sarah Josepha Hale, Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November to be the national Thanksgiving Day.

In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared that Thanksgiving would be the next to last Thursday of November. This was established in hopes of helping the U.S. get out of the The Great Depression. This provided merchants more time to sell goods before Christmas. Back then it was deemed improper to market Christmas merchandise until after Thanksgiving. This decision was not mandatory, and 23 states participated on the new day, 22 did not. Texas could not make up its mind and ended up taking both weeks as holidays (funny).

In 1941, The U.S. Congress officially recognized a new date and brought the states back in synch. Thanksgiving would now occur annually on the fourth Thursday of November (sometimes the last and sometimes the next to last).

Laughing and Slapping (my knee)

My wife and I have been trying to see Kicking and Screaming since it came out on DVD. We're big Will Ferrell fans. After 6 trips to the video store over the past two weeks one copy was finally available to rent.

Great movie. It's a very funny, sleaze free, and accurate film (most of the time). Rent or buy the movie if you've ever played team sports. I played team sports (baseball, soccer, and a little basketball) when I was a kid. I also spent five years working online in the youth sports industry with eteamz.com, and the movie reminded me of my many encounters with customers and members. I experienced a lot of positive and surprisingly negative realities within youth sports. I have found the keys to youth sports are team work, physical and mental development, and fun. Not competition. Not power. Not winning. Many people may say "of course, that's a given," however, it often plays out differently on the field, court, ice rink, etc.

9 and 0

Way to go Colts! I had to make one last blog entry today and congratulate my hometown Indianapolis Colts on their ninth straight win this season. This is looking to be our year.

Anybody Else Hear This?

Speaking of Sting, I found it really interesting how the "Send Your Love" remix (off Sting's latest album) and Madonna's new song "Hung Up" sound so similar. Listen to the bass lines. I cannot confirm if both songs are mixed by the same DJ. Anybody know? In any case, being a Sting fan, it bugs me. I keep thinking of his song everytime "Hung Up" is spun. I want diversity.

Quote for the Weekend

“There can be no success without hardship.”
~ Sophocles, Greek philosopher, writer, (497-406 BC)

This is right on. Whether Sophocles was writing a play or on the battlefield, I'm sure hardship came in many forms, as did success.

Don't forget this quote when things are tough. It is up to you to find success. Make it happen.

Can Ketchup Be a Meal?

Ketchup is my favorite condiment. I seriously put it on so many things...from chicken to eggs to tacos. I get picked on about this a lot, so I'm taking a stand. :)

Am I crazy? Is my habit a bad thing? Heck no. Heinz is addictive. Try it yourself. It's supposed to taste good on just about anything. And, it's packed with lycopene. If you don't know about lycopen, it's a powerful antioxidant and darn good for you. I'm not stopping. I'll find new items to put my wonderful condiment on. Keep your "eww...that's gross" comments to yourself.

Ketchup, it's what's for dinner.

"The two words "information" and "communication" are often used interchangeably, but they signify quite different things. Information is giving out; communication is getting through."
